Tertiary Scripted
Undergraduate Students
Maximum 40 Minutes Length
Films that have a clear throughline with characters that are performed by non-professionals.
Trailer

25 Seconds - 1 Minute in Length
Short promotional videos that advertise a product, event or film.
The Final Frame
Students in Years 7-12
A3 Poster Format
A horror film poster that shows clear artistic direction and creates intrigue.
Requires rationale of film idea – must not include pre-existing intellectual property.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Rules and Terms:
Film submission is entitled to Queensland and Northern New South Wales
(postcodes 2450-2490)
students;
All films must be submitted in English or with English subtitles;
All films must have been made no more than 12 months prior to the competition opening date;
Short films and trailers must not exceed the length outlined in the award category requirements;
Filmmakers are responsible for acquiring the appropriate copyrights and licenses in their own materials;
You certify that you have all the relevant rights to submit your short film, including the use of any and all music, sound and performances and can provide written evidence if requested by the organiser;
You certify that the use of the work in the short film won’t infringe any intellectual property rights or any other rights of any third person;
By submitting to us, you give Village Roadshow Theme Parks and Warner Bros. Movie World consent and right to screen your film in part or entirety in front of a live audience, and online via the official Scream Scenes webpage;
Nominations: These are all the film that have been submitted for an award in a category. Not all nominated films will be screened;
Award Winners: Chosen from the Nominations;
Award Nominees must be present at the award ceremony to be awarded their prize in the relevant category;
Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a responsible adult 18+ when attending the award ceremony;
We reserve the right to determine the eligibility of any work submitted;
We reserve the right to update our terms and conditions at any stage;
By submitting your film to the Scream Scenes student film competition, you agree to our terms and conditions and to receiving marketing newsletters and discounts about film festivals in the form of emails. We will never sell your information to third parties.
Entry Conditions:
SUBMISSION
All entries must be submitted by Sunday 14th September 2025 at 11:59pm.
Submissions must be made through the provided submission portal.
Films must be uploaded to YouTube (unlisted) and a link provided during submission.
No entry fee is required to submit works.
Students are required to provide a copy of their student ID when submitting their film to verify their submission category and student status.
You will be emailed a receipt confirming you submission has been received.
Multiple entries will be accepted per submitter as long as all entry requirements are met and separate entry forms are submitted.
Any technical issues are the responsibility of the submitter (you) or the producer/director and if at the time of judging the short film does not work or is not viewable, we will send an email to the address on file to follow up. If a response with the correct information is not received within three (3) days, the submission will be deemed ineligible.
SUBMISSION MATERIAL
Each submission is required to include the following:
Short film or Final Frame Image
Short synopsis
All short films must not exceed the designated time limit;
All entries must have an element of horror, or something that shocks and disturbs;
NOTIFICATION
On Monday 22nd September 2025 the submitter will be notified via email if they have been successfully shortlisted as an award finalist.
PRESS KIT ASSETS
Press Kits are required by Shortlisted Nominees and must be received no later than Monday 6th October 2025..
